A Pair of Chinese Red-And-Gilt Lacquer Chests
Each decorated with imperial iconography, including the five-clawed dragon chasing the flaming seed-pearl, chrysanthemums, scrolling foliate motifs and other flora, the hinged tops secured by a later shaped backplate and latch, incised all over with dragon motifs, the underside of each top with Chinese characters for the city of Hangzhou, the sides mounted with foliate incised handles, the back decorated with a large flowering plum blossom branch
