AN AUSTRIAN SILVER AND ENAMEL MINIATURE WAGER CUP MODELLED AS A MAIDEN

Austrian, late 19th Century, modelled as a maiden with raised arms supporting a swivelling bowl between scrolled brackets, her bell shaped skirt enamelled in colours with a lady seated in a garden, the reverse with a crimson ground heightened with gilt scrolls, the swivelling bowl enamelled within with figures among flowers, upon a beaded rim. 5.2cm high, Cups of this form, known in German as Jungfrauenbecher or maiden cups, are inverted for use, the bell shaped skirt forming the larger cup while the smaller bowl swings upon its pivot and remains upright, so that both may be filled and emptied together
