Green-glazed earthenware nomad rider's gourd from China, Tang Dynasty (618-907) Monochrome green-glazed earthenware This piece evokes a nomad rider's gourd, sculpted with details imitating leather Suspension handles (ears): You can observe small perforated lugs on the edges. They were used to pass leather straps or cords to suspend the flask from the horse's flank or at the rider's belt. Lead-bearing emerald-green glaze (obtained thanks to copper oxide). The slightly patinated, iridescent, and earthy appearance of the surface is due to the natural chemical alteration of the glaze's lead after centuries of burial in a tomb. This piece is a magnificent testament to the cultural synthesis inherent in Tang art, blending utilitarian leather shapes of nomadic origin with the mastery of Chinese ceramics. Revealing the rise of trade that took place during the Tang Dynasty Dimensions: 20 x 18 x 7.5 cm Small chips at the neck No restoration has been performed, (tested by UV light and thermoluminescence) Provenance: - Private collection in southern France An authenticity certificate will be issued to the purchaser. Taxes and customs duties are included in the shipping costs for international shipments Catawiki disclaimer: This object has been dated based on style by the seller. No further tests, such as TL tests, lapidary tests, analysis of pigments or radiography scans have been conducted to check the integrity of the piece.
