Anonymous. Poems by the Easygoing Gentlemen Academics of Pesaro. Pesaro, for Gio. Paolo Gotti, 1649. First edition. Extremely rare original edition of the famous collection of the first lyrical attempts by the members of the newborn Marche-based academy. Anthology of rhymes and compositions by Pesaro, Rimini, Terni, Umbrian and Marche authors, many praising a beautiful woman, others celebrating the glories of Cardinal Alderano Cybo, protector of the Academy. The collection owes its importance mainly to the inclusion of the first lyrical experiments by the alchemist and esotericist Francesco Maria Santinelli, one of the era’s most enigmatic and fascinating figures. Binding in modern card cover. Title on a gold inlay on the spine. Beautiful allegorical frontispiece engraved by Joseph Greuter, with Calliope and Fama in the foreground, bare-breasted, presenting the Academy’s emblem and motto.
