In Germany he exhibited his paintings to Herwath Walden, an important figure of the German avant-garde and editor of the magazine “Der Sturm” (The Storm), where works by Kandinsky, Klee, Chagall are featured. During his years in Berlin, Bela Kadar changed his expressionist style. At first his painting was full of emotion, with graphics in powerful tones. Around the 1920s it became more romantic. The subject becomes narrative and the elements of tales and fantasies become important. These dream-like images remind one a lot of Chagall, but his main influence was the group of German Expressionist artists. Bela Kadar traversed many international movements: Cubism, Futurism, Neoprimitivism, Constructivism.
