ADB XLVI, 344. - First edition. - Marie Gontard, from a Frankfurt banking family, undertook a solo journey to Constantinople; this work marked the beginning of her writing career. - The plates depict a harem woman and a dervish. - At the end, a reprint of several letters from the author to Beethoven, Chamisso, Catherine II, and others. - Some foxing throughout, first leaves with a damp stain in the lower outer corner.
