Wondrous "Flying Dragon" Dollar Pattern in Gold CHINA. Gold Dollar Pattern, ND (1916). Tientsin Mint. Hung-hsien (Hongxian [Yuan Shih-kai]). PCGS SPECIMEN-61. L&M-1114; Fr-Unlisted; K-1560; KM-Pn44; WS-0076; Wenchao-55 (rarity: ★★★). An off-metal striking in gold of the contemporary silver Dollar, this "imperial" issue is named for its commemoration of Yuan Shih-kai's brief attempt to restore imperial rule in China in the form of the Hung-hsien era. Though very brief, its numismatic output has long-lasting desirability, with this IMMENSE RARITY at or near the top of the list. Superbly radiant and attractive, it presents tremendous captivating brilliance and luster, all paired with a sharp and exacting strike as well as beautiful burnished toning notes accentuating the devices. Estimate: $100,000 - $200,000. Provenance: From the Charles “Cheech” Litman Collection. To view all items from the Charles “Cheech” Litman Collection, click here.
