Stunning Cyclically Dated Tael Pattern Restrike CHINA. Silver Tael Pattern Restrike, "CD (1906)" (ca. early 20th Century). Tientsin Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS SPECIMEN-60. L&M-16A; cf. K-934 (no distinction made between originals & restrikes); cf. KM-Pn300 (same); cf. WS-0021 (same); cf. Wenchao-85 (rarity: ★★★★; [same]). An EXCESSIVELY RARE type that simply never caught on, this restrike of original foreshadows the later adopted Dollar-standard issue under Kuang-hsu. Immensely radiant and with essentially no toning, this Mint State example provides wondrous lustrous brilliance as well as sharply incised characters and devices. Some scattered friction is noted among the fields, accounting for the overall designation. A phenomenal opportunity for the collector of majestic patterns of the vintage Chinese series, or of world crowns more broadly. Estimate: $100,000 - $150,000. Estimate:$60,000
