EXTREMELY RARE COUNTER TOP REGINA HEXAPHONE SIX-CYLINDER CAROUSEL PHONOGRAPH

EXTREMELY RARE COUNTER TOP REGINA HEXAPHONE SIX-CYLINDER CAROUSEL PHONOGRAPH C. 1906–1912. Manufactured by The Regina Company, Rahway, New Jersey. Exceptionally rare counter model Regina Hexaphone phonograph, featuring the innovative six-cylinder rotating carousel mechanism designed to play standard two-minute cylinder records in automatic succession or to be manually advanced, allowing a patron to select a desired title. Marketed primarily to the commercial trade, the Hexaphone was intended for countertop placement in stores, saloons, and other public venues where continuous or selectable musical entertainment was desired. Considerably rarer than the floor-standing model, this compact configuration represents one of the earliest practical applications of an automatic record-changing system in a cylinder phonograph. The precision-geared drive system and indexed rotating turret advance each cylinder into playing position sequentially, demonstrating Regina’s ambitious entry into the competitive cylinder phonograph market dominated by Edison. The model is illustrated and discussed in Encyclopedia of Mechanical Music Machines by Q. David Bowers (see p. 212), underscoring its recognized importance within the field of mechanical music.
