Florent Kubler is a contemporary French painter and visual artist whose work and approach are deeply marked by travel and human exploration. Education and beginnings: Born in 1988, Florent Kubler has been passionate about drawing and painting from a very young age. He joined the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Nancy (the Beaux-Arts), from which he graduated with a design option in 2009. During his studies, he developed a multifaceted profile, dabbling in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and inventive object design. The formative travel experience: Refusing to confine himself immediately to a studio, he chose solo travel as a form of alternative and superior education. In January 2012, at age 23, he left Place Stanislas in Nancy to embark on a world tour by hitchhiking. This formative journey extended across several continents. He traveled North America, the Mediterranean, traversed Europe far and wide, North Africa to the South, then Asia, then Oceania... Practicing hitchhiking, walking, train travel, and even sailing, and with little financial resources at the start, he used his talent as currency. His drawings, watercolors, and life sketches were offered in exchange for kilometers, meals, or accommodations. To soak up the local realities, he also took on various small jobs as opportunities arose. This total immersion gave birth to travel journals that are extremely dense, blending sociological sketches and photographs. These long-term travels are intense and sometimes eventful, marked by experiences ranging from encounters with fascinating people and cultures to situations of extortion, imprisonment, or expulsion. Artistic style and themes: Back in France, Florent Kubler devoted himself fully to his artistic practice in Nancy. Enriched by his encounters around the world, his art explores the complexities of existence and the essence of humanity. His paintings and drawings primarily capture scenes of life in motion, aiming to translate social reality and the poetry of daily life. His work, colorful and expressive, is regularly shown in national and international exhibitions. His creations and projects can be followed on contemporary art platforms such as Artsper, Artmajeur. He is also present on the classic networks (Instagram, Facebook). Kubler’s work centers on capturing movement and spontaneity, an inheritance directly from his years of sketching the world on the fly. An expressionist and figurative painting: His style is part of the new figuration. He focuses on representing the human figure, not in an academic way, but through dynamic attitudes, postures, and expressions. His subjects often adopt fluid, almost dancing poses. The artist uses mixed media—oil paint, acrylics, pastels, or even traditional ink. He favors bold, broad, confident brushstrokes. This visible texture conveys a sense of energy and spontaneity to the canvas, giving the impression that the work was executed in the urgency of the moment. His color palette varies, often combining vibrant tones with minimalist backgrounds or more subdued palettes (such as blues and browns). He plays strongly with light and shadow to give volume and a three-dimensional dimension to his moving silhouettes. His images have found homes with numerous international collectors and have been published in various journals (CAN, JDB-Bateau Genève, Bedford Street...). It is the human being and its complexities that animate his images, from everyday scenes to studies of the body and movement. Influences: Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Schiele, Couture, Lamazou Exhibitions: Fondation Solange Bertrand, Nancy 2025 Le Bateau Genève, Geneva 2024 Erotic’Art, Plombières-les-Bains 2022 and 2023 Le p’tit Baz’art, Nancy 2019 and 2021 Le Hameau des Artistes, Nancy 2020 Maison Du Département, Nancy 2019 Expos Plus belle la vie et Plus belle la mort.
