Hugues - Monumens, 2 Werke in 3 Bdn.

(Hugues, P-F., genannt d'Hancarville). 1. Rom, Imprimerie du Vatican, 1787. 48 S.; Drucktitel, XX Seiten, 50 einseitig bedruckte Textblätter. Mit 2 gestochenen Frontispizen u. 50 Kupfertafeln. Geflammte Lederbände d. Zt. m. XII, 196 pages. With 1 engraved frontispiece and 50 copperplate engravings. 4to. New half-leather binding using the old covers (edges rubbed and bumped). 2. With 2 engraved frontispieces and 50 copperplate engravings. Flamed leather bindings. With gilt spine, gilt-stamped cover, top and inner edge fillets, and gilt edges (rubbed and bumped). Cohen/Ricci 474f.; Sander 893/896; Lewine 233.- Regarding 1: Second printing of the Monuments series.- Regarding 2: Volume 1 without printed title.- Hugues displayed and described alleged Roman gems and medals, whose erotic motifs, however, originated from his own imagination. Thus, the archaeological and art-historical descriptions are also purely fictitious. The erotic scenes from the lives of the twelve Roman emperors and the ladies of Rome were nevertheless reprinted repeatedly and are still among the most sought-after erotica and cultural-historical curiosities.- Each with wide margins and some minor foxing.
