After training successively at the École des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse, at ENSAD in Paris, then as a resident at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, he began his career with an abstract and colorful painting very characteristic of the 1960s. He then turned to sculpture and the integration of art into the city, forging the status of “public artist number one.” His main objective is to bring art out of museums to confront the daily life of citizens directly, thus permanently changing the urban landscape. He developed a unique concept of artistic signage with utilitarian purpose through his famous “Tissignalisations,” which incorporate geometric shapes and bright colors. His major public works include emblematic developments for the Paris metro station Pyramides, the colorful bus shelters of Port-Barcarès as well as imposing highway works such as the Cathar Knights. In parallel, he collaborated with the enameling workshop Jean Neuhaus to design urban furniture and notable design pieces issued for Prisunic stores. Winner of the prestigious Fondation de la Vocation in 1982, he also exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in 1977
