Jalisco Seated Figure with Club, San Juanito Type

A hollow pottery figure of a seated male, his left knee drawn up with his hand resting on it. With his right hand he holds a small bowl, probably an offering vessel, balanced on the raised right knee. The head is dramatically elongated, rising to a flared opening, and the face shows the hallmark features of the Ameca-Etzatlán style: a long, prominent nose, narrow slit eyes, and an open mouth with bared teeth. Applied locks of hair fall to the shoulders on either side of the face. The body is compact and broad-shouldered, with the genitals indicated. The surface is cream-slipped with traces of red pigment and scattered black manganese deposits. Item # 205619
