Jeff Hackney (NC), Icarus Monumental Steel Statue

Circa 2015, fabricated and welded steel with applied patina, unsigned, mounted atop a square steel pedestal cube with custom walnut framed concrete paver base. 82 3/4 x 16 1/2 x 16 1/2 in. Jeff Hackney is an award winning sculptor and photographer working in North Carolina. His sculptural oeuvre includes steel, concrete, wood, and bronze. His works have been collected in private and public collections across the United States, Brazil, and have been purchased for various permanent art collections of municipalities, and private public partnerships including: the Arts and Science Council and Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, NC; the Sandy Springs Conservancy and the city of Sandy Springs, GA; the city of Wilmington, NC; the city of Burlington, NC; the city of Mebane, NC; Alamance County, NC; and King University in Bristol, Tennessee. "As a child, I was ever curious about art and design, both man-made and in nature. To my way of thinking, everything in the world no matter how complex is always made up of simple structures. Part of what defines art for me was always the challenge of simplicity in design as well as construction. Building art simply, I used few and the most basic tools, which allowed me to form a connection and listen to, the materials I worked with. Art became a conversation." Some areas of light wear to the patina; overall good estate condition.
