Louis-Marie, Marquis d’ESTOURMEL (Suzanne/Somme) 1744–1823—General, Deputy to the Estates-General in 1789, Deputy for the Somme. - Letter A.S., from his youth, “The Marquis d’ESTOURMEL, Second Lieutenant of the Scottish Gendarmes, from LUNÉVILLE (54) July 9, 1772. Believing that he should report directly to the Marquis de CASTRIES on what was happening in his company, the latter ordered him to report to the Marquis d’AUTICHAMP. “Would he not wish to ensure that the account Mr. de CASTRIES might give of his conduct does not cast him in a negative light in the eyes of the Marquis?” “I cannot emphasize enough, Your Excellency, that a specific ordinance is the only way to restore order: Will the Gendarmerie Corps be the only one you do not concern yourself with, and will the care you deigned to take in the latest ordinance regarding the Cavalry—to prevent any innovation—not extend to the foremost military corps in France?”
