MASSON (André). — André Masson. Paris, Éditions des Musées nationaux, 1977. A quarto-sized volume, paperback, with a color-illustrated cover featuring flaps. A major catalog of the retrospective dedicated to André Masson (1896–1987) at the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais, March 5–May 2, 1977. This exhibition traces the evolution of the artist’s work—a major figure in Surrealism—from his early explorations to his most free-form compositions, marked by automatism, mythology, and the depiction of the forces of nature. Richly illustrated in black and white and color with reproductions of paintings, drawings, and graphic works, accompanied by descriptions and critical essays. The cover features a polychrome composition by the artist. A fine copy.
