Her works, often characterized by dynamic forms and vivid colors, have inspired numerous artists and influenced many themselves. Saint Phalle was a prominent member of the Nouveau Realistes and worked closely with artists such as Jean Tinguely. Saint Phalle's sculptural and often monumental compositions find parallels in the works of artists such as Claes Oldenburg and Yayoi Kusama, who also create large-format and colorful works. Saint Phalle's distinctive visual language also influenced contemporary artists like Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami. In the modern art scene, her influence can be seen in the works of artists like Kiki Smith and Louise Bourgeois, whose figurative and often emotional works address feminist and societal themes in a similar way. The works of Jenny Holzer and Barbara Kruger also bear traces of Saint Phalle's aesthetic and substantive influences.
