Autograph signed draft letter and 1 lithograph: Draft of his letter of resignation as Prefect of the Seine, which he would send to King Louis-Philippe I, written in Paris on December 28, 1830. 1 folio page. Barrot reminds the King that it was solely out of a sense of duty that he accepted this position and that he had been led to believe “that [his] mission would not last longer than the necessity that prompted it.” He adds: “I believe the time has come for me to return to my usual duties. Your Majesty’s government has demonstrated its strength; it no longer needs a politician at City Hall—a good administrator will suffice… ” (Appointed Prefect on August 30, 1830, Barrot had also been elected Deputy for the Eure department. The King refused this resignation, but Barrot eventually left his post in October. He became the leader of the left-wing constitutional monarchists.) + Lithograph (40 x 29) by Bornemann, based on a photograph by Adam Salomon. Printed by Lemercier & Co., Paris, 1869.
