Primitive echinoderm - Stylophora!!! - Fossilised animal...

Spectacular slab with a complete specimen of Chauvelicystis, an primitive and enigmatic echinoderm that lived during the Ordovician. There is plate and counterplate. The animal Chauvelicystis had a flat, boot-shaped body and a slender rod-shaped appendage that could be a stalk or something analogous to a foot or a tail. The slabs contain 1 complete specimen. Specimens with this preservation are extremely rare. The contrast between the fossils and the matrix is spectacular. The extraordinary preservation of the fossils allows observing in great detail the delicate structures of Chauvelicystis. There is plate and counterplate. A specimen worthy of a museum. Plastic supports included. Plate measurements: 90 x 90 x 8 mm; 125 g Counterplate measurements: 70 x 55 x 9 mm; 67 g Length of Chauvelicystis: 10 mm The Fezouata Formation quarries, near the Moroccan town of Zagora, are providing a rich and varied record of fossils with extraordinary preservation, to the point that soft parts or soft-bodied animals are frequently preserved. This type of preservation is similar, though later in time, to that of the famous Burgess Shale (Canada). These fossils date from between 480 and 472 million years ago. Back then, Morocco was an ocean and located near the South Pole.
