RARE 19TH CENTURY "HOME RUN" TOBACCO TIN SIGN

RARE 19TH CENTURY "HOME RUN" TOBACCO TIN SIGN C. 1880s. SST. Townsend, Hostetter & Co. Manfrs, Chicago. A very early, extremely rare and historically important baseball related tin tacker sign advertising the “Home Run” brand smoking and chewing tobacco by the S. Hernsheim Bros. Co., New Orleans. Founded by Simon Hernsheim in 1857, they manufactured their own line of “fine-cut chewing tobacco, hand rolled cigars and well-made cigarettes” until sold in the late 1890s. The potentially one-of-a-kind sign featuring very early baseball graphics was discovered in New Orleans over 40 years ago. It shows pitting and surface rust, edge wear and loss with some slight bends. A historically relevant and truly fresh to the market sign. Condition: (6.0). Item Dimensions: 14" X 6 - 1/2".
