The vivid colors, sinuous outlines and dreamlike space evoke a symbolic universe nourished by mythological and surreal references. Title: Surreal and Mythological Composition Technique: mixed media on cut cardboard Artist: Saül Kaminer (born in 1952) Artwork size: 40 × 31 cm Condition: Good condition. Saül Kaminer is a Mexican visual artist, painter and sculptor born in Mexico City in 1952. Coming from a family with Central European Jewish roots, he grows up in Mexico where he studies at the National School of Architecture of UNAM between 1970 and 1975. His thesis, devoted to the foundation of the great pre-Hispanic cities, as well as his training as a builder, deeply shape his artistic vision of space. Choosing to devote himself to painting, he settled in Paris in 1976 to pursue urbanism studies. He spent more than twenty years in the French capital and there, in 1982, became one of the founders of the Latin American artists’ collective Magie-Image, which forged close links with Roberto Matta. His distinctive aesthetic blends figurative work and pure abstraction, nourished by cosmogony and pre-Columbian statuary. The painter works on the permanent structural contrast between void and fullness, while his sculptures frequently employ the traditional terracotta technique. Today, this traveling artist shares his daily life and his creation studios between France and Mexico.
