The works depict the two iconic felines in complementary poses: the Sleeping Lion, laid out in a calm and composed posture, and the Vigilant Lion, alert and majestic. Both sculptures are made in reconstituted Carrara marble, with surfaces finely finished by hand, characterized by excellent attention to anatomical details and a soft rendering of volumes typical of Canova's language.
