Self-Portrait in a Flat Cap and Embroidered Dress Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn

An exceptionally fine, early impression of New Hollstein’s first state (of three), before the reinforcement of the signature, with the fine horizontal wiping scratches still clearly visible. With thread margins in places, otherwise trimmed to the platemark. – The left and right edges skilfully remargined with fine paper. Verso with a small area of paper thinning at the lower edge. Otherwise in very good condition. Impressions of this quality are very rare. | 1606 Leiden - Amsterdam 1669 | 15.-18.
