Tibetan Gilt Copper Repousse Plaque Vajravarahi (Dorje Phagmo)

Tibet. A gilt copper repoussé plaque depicting Vajravarahi (Dorje Phagmo), a tantric goddess regarded as the embodiment of wisdom and a principal female meditational deity in Vajrayana Buddhism. She is shown in a warrior stance within an arched foliate mandorla, holding a curved flaying knife (kartika) in her upper right hand and a skull cup (kapala) in her lower left, attributes associated with cutting through ignorance. Her remaining hands hold additional ritual attributes, and she is adorned with a jeweled crown, earrings, and a flowing dhoti. Size: 4.75" W x 6.78" H (12.1 cm x 17.2 cm); 8.5" H (21.6 cm) on included custom stand. The surface retains rich gilding over a red ground—red being the color most associated with Vajravarahi’s transformative power—enhancing the sculpture’s spiritual and visual intensity.
