Val Saint Lambert - Charles Graffart - Cake stand - 'Hambourg” - 26

Val Saint Lambert “Hambourg” Demi-Crystal Cake Stand — 1913 No reserve price An elegant cake stand (plat à tarte) from the historic Hambourg service by Val Saint Lambert, crafted in high-quality demi-cristal and documented in the original 1913 Val Saint Lambert catalogue. The piece features an intricate combination of radial and geometric moulded patterns, a delicately scalloped edge, and a finely detailed pedestal base. Its balanced proportions and refined decoration beautifully illustrate the quality and craftsmanship for which Val Saint Lambert was renowned in the early 20th century. As part of the extensive Hambourg service, which included a variety of coordinated tableware, this cake stand makes an excellent addition to an existing Val Saint Lambert collection or an attractive starting point for a new one. Despite being more than a century old, its clean geometric design feels remarkably contemporary. It can be easily incorporated into a modern table setting, where antique glass creates an elegant contrast with contemporary ceramics, cutlery and minimalist décor. Equally decorative when not in use, it fits naturally into both modern and classic interiors. Perfect for presenting cakes, pastries, fruit or desserts, it is particularly charming for Christmas, Easter, birthdays and other celebrations, bringing a distinctive historic touch and a warm, festive atmosphere to the table. Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks. The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp. The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics. Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation. Some bubbles and small imperfections are normal in items made of pressed glass. Will be well packaged, protected and insured
