Descriptio Oil on tin. Dimensions: 12.8 x 16.6 cm (24.5 x 28.5 x 5 cm with frame). Signed in the lower left corner: “Canella”. Painted around 1820, this work depicts a cityscape of Almansa, with the Almohad castle in the background, as seen from Hospital Street. The meticulous architectural detail, atmospheric refinement, and precise brushwork place the work within the early Italian Romanticism, in keeping with the style of Giuseppe Canella (Verona, 1788–Florence, 1847). Provenance: private collection, Paris. An outstanding example of European urban landscape painting from the first half of the 19th century.
