Barthélémy Louis Martin CHAUMONT DE LA GALAIZIÈRE, first Bishop of SAINT-DIÉ (Vosges) in 1777, In 1787, in Nancy, he was one of five elected representatives of the clergy to the Provincial Assembly of Lorraine and Barrois; he was appointed its president. On January 21, 1791, he refused to take the Constitutional Oath and went into exile. (Paris 1737 – Mareil-le-Guyon (78) 1808) – Document signed as Bishop of Saint-Dié, on letterhead bearing his name and titles. We grant to Michael Francis MARCHAL, the priest of our Diocese, the authority to preach the Gospel of God: “Conscious of your office, you shall observe the rules, both in ritual and in synodal statutes.” ” Dated at Saint-Dié on September 20, 1789.
