This small lidded cylindrical jar is crafted from fine-grained unglazed Wedgwood jasperware. The piece features a white stoneware body with applied black basalt relief (sprigged) decoration. The exterior of the jar is ornamented with three distinct panels portraying classical mythological figures in various poses. The domed lid is similarly decorated with a central black basalt relief scene. A repeating laurel leaf wreath border in black basalt relief encircles the flared base of the vessel. The underside of the jar is impressed with the maker mark WEDGWOOD and includes a silver circular sticker for the Rubin Collection.
